Unfortunately climate change is a term everybody knows. With wildfires raging around the world right now and other extreme weather conditions occurring as well, most people are questioning when, and more importantly how Mother Earth is going to get better.
Bringing hope are these fresh environmental startups, working to reduce climate change through advanced techniques such as AI and bio-development. Some of the most intelligent people in the world that are using their knowledge to help the planet sure sounds promising and with investors having a fast growing interest in the matter, some solutions will hopefully surface in the near future.
1. Carbon Engineering
This Bill Gates-backed Canadian company “pulls carbon dioxide out of the air by running it through specially formulated chemicals,” according to a New York Times article. The technology is called Direct Air Capture and they have been working on it for over 11 years.
2. Ocean-Based Climate Solutions
This startup has “created a device that stirs up water in the ocean to promote the growth of phytoplankton, which are algae that can take carbon dioxide out of the air and deliver it to the bottom of the sea in solid form,” reports The Times.
3. Prometheus Fuels
This company is working hard on finding a technique to generate gas from thin air, instead of gaining oil from underground. The company was founded after a depressing United Nations report on climate change in October 2018.
4. One Concern
CEO and founder Ahmad Wani survived being stuck for seven days in a flood and decided to help the future world. The company uses AI and data science to aid in preventing the disasters that come with climate change.
5. Project Vesta
This startup is mining a volcanic rock called ‘olivine’ and distributes it along shorelines across the world to help speed up the planet’s natural process of reabsorbing CO2.
